The Elberton 12-County Fair will celebrate its 78th year of operation in 2011, and was Voted one of the 10 Great Places for Blue-Ribbon County Fairs in USA Today in 2010. When all the planning is completed, it promises to be the most exciting Fair ever.

New this year is Chase’s Racing and Swimming Pigs. They will be performing nightly, and is great family friendly entertainment for all ages.

This year’s Fair will also include many of the annual favorites. Carnival Midway by Family Attractions, Big Time Wrestling, Elberton Idol Contest, and the Exotic Animal Petting Zoo. Nightly Stage Shows and much more are still in the planning stages.

This year is the 3rd annual "Miss Elberton County" and "Little Miss Elberton County" Pageant. Winners of age divisions will receive great age appropriate gifts, an Embroidered Sash and a Large Trophy and Crown. Go to the applications link for all the details. The Fair scheduled for October 3-9, will be the "Event of the Year" in northeast Georgia, according to Dick Carl, Fair Manager. Carl goes on to say that the fair management staff has been working during the past year to bring the best county fair ever to Elbert County and northeast Georgia. The fair serves 10 northeast counties in Georgia as well as 2 counties in South Carolina.

Exotic animals and cute farm animals will be presented by Sam’s Path Petting Zoo. You will enjoy close encounters with animals not seen every day, in a clean and safe environment. You can also experience riding the ponies or "Rufus" the camel.

More popular than ever, the Ultimate Elberton Idol Contest will take the Days Inn Entertainment Stage for the eighth year. The contestants will audition on-air on the morning show on WSGC 105.3 for the right to perform during the preliminaries at the fair on Tuesday night October 4th. Finals will be held on ‘Saturday October 8th.

The 13th annual Diaper Derby Baby Crawling contest will be held on the Days Inn Entertainment Stage on Wednesday Night, October 5th. Savings bonds will be given by Pinnacle Bank.

To be eligible for the contest, babies must be younger than a year and not yet walking. Entry forms are available at the Little Moments Daycare Center, the Fair office or on line at Elbertonfair.com, under the applications link.

Fair goers are reminded that Blue Ribbons and some nice premium monies can be earned by exhibiting what they have grown or raised during the year. Jellies, Jams, Crafts, Art and many other categories are detailed in the fair Premium Book which is available at the fair office or on line at Elberton.com.
